TIFF: Where Movie Magic Happened!
There’s a reason it’s called Movie Magic. I witnessed it up-close and personal attending TIFF for the very first time. As an author, the whole experience was new to me. But from the moment the film option for my debut novel series was sold, I’ve been whisked away on an adventure like no other.
An invitation to attend meetings scheduled during TIFF, came to me from the producer working on the film. “Will I come and talk about my books, you ask?” Needless to say I leapt at the opportunity. The inner workings of the film industry were, and to a lesser degree still are, very foreign to me as an author. But primarily, it remains magical. So many layers involved, so many parties involved, so many pieces that must come together in the most amazing ways. And so many who are gifted at what they do, contributing their little piece of that magic.
The experience was in a word, well, you guessed it…magical. Meeting stars (Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jennifer Garner, Paul Bucknor, Melissa DiMarco, Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson & Michael Fassbender, just to name a few) was a lot of fun. Meeting studio execs, writers and directors, financiers and distributors…all invested in bringing this project (Fire & Ice) to life on the big screen, was beyond thrilling.
Did I experience any of the movie magic myself? Unfortunately not, because our timetable left little time for viewing any actual screenings. Our schedule went much like this: wake up, coffee, meetings, lunch, more coffee, more meetings, wine, cocktails, dinner, coffee & wine, private party, another private party, one more private party, bed, wake up, repeat.
For seven days straight.
It was as exhilarating as it was exhausting.
But the magic was everywhere at this event, with or without having watched any of the incredible film debuts. It was a pleasure to get swept up in all of it, and I look forward to seeing more movie magic, as things unfold.
The best is yet to come! Stay tuned!!
