Still reeling from the heartbreaking events that unfolded on Grissom Island, Ruby Rose is trying to come to terms with the fact that she’s gone from a vigilante in killer shoes to a stone-cold killer. Everyone from her therapist to her smoking-hot boyfriend keeps trying to convince her that she hasn’t crossed over to the dark side, but Ruby isn’t so sure. It doesn’t help that her nemesis, Detective “Mastermind” Martinez, is still out there, waiting for another chance to take her down.
When an alleged CIA agent named Skryker shows up and asks for a meeting, Ruby figures it just means more questions about her case. But he has information of an entirely different nature and a job offer: join an elite force of young assassins, including Skryker’s right-hand guy, Quinn Donovan. Quinn is distractingly charming, handsome—and deadly. Ruby resists becoming a killer again, but as she becomes more ensnared in a web of deceit, no one around her is safe.
So this little tidbit of information may not be important, however in some ways it is, to explain the frame of mind I’m currently in. Recently I watched about 2 or 3 seasons of ARROW in about a 2 week period. The list. Finding the bad guys. Killing the bad guys, etc. etc. So jumping into Resisting Ruby Rose was absolutely easy. I was ready to see what Ruby Rose was up to next, in her world of assassins. Did I mention that I could picture her as a member of Oliver Queen’s team? That’s just the kind of girl she is, fearless.
Although just a pinch on the slower pace side in the beginning, Jessie Humphries’ novel, Resisting Ruby Rose is another read not to be missed. it is a perfect compliment to book 1. Ruby Ruse has a new love interest in the midst and a new mission to tackle. Once the novel truly picks up, there is action all throughout. I always suggest that you read the first book in a series. However, the storyline is written as such that you would pick up quickly on the plot if you haven’t read Killing Ruby Rose yet. This story is filled with elements that truly makes this mature YA title a great thriller!
