Life holds no surprises for Devon Murphy. Her life consists of keeping tabs on her aging Irish father, working part time at a coffee shop, and building her online graphics design business. Devon’s only tricky situation is a shallow relationship with the pampered and affluent Michael Turner, who sees her as just another woman to conquer.
Following his father’s death, Brandon’s only goal is to expand the family business and live life on his own terms. That is, until he walks into the coffee shop one snowy evening and meets the enchanting, red-haired barista behind the counter. But can Devon and Brandon’s attraction for each other be strong enough to help erase their deepest disappointments and renew their faith in God?
As an only child, Devon is living a life filled with simple pleasures. Creating that perfect cup of coffee by day and the perfect marketing design by night, while at the same time living with her father, in the home she has always known. That is her routine, that is life. Devon’s relationship with Michael appears to be the ideal relationship on the surface, however once you truly get to the heart of it, it’s nothing but ideal. Soon Devon finds herself, attracted to a young man by the name of Brandon. They have so many things in common, that Devon really can’t resist. Breaking off the relationship with Michael, however, may not be that easy. With Michael’s ego and belief that money can buy anything, things may get a little rocky.
It is always a wonderful feeling to be a able to read a quick and clean romance novel in one setting. Catherine Bennett has developed such realistic characters, with real life obstacles. Each character has it’s own personality that builds throughout the novel. The setting is truly real, allowing you see it and visualize it with each page. I particularly love the scenes sprinkled throughout of Devon’s dog. Nose pressed against the window waiting for her arrival. This occurred several times. Her dog was a gift from her mother, before she died. I think the pet by have some symbolism attached to it. All in all, Devon and Brandon have to come to terms with elements of their lives, and decide if they truly have a chance to be together. They may just have to do some spiritual searching within themselves to figure that out.
