There are books with awesome covers. There are books that hold our attention. There are books with a great storyline. Then there are books with unforgettable characters. Books with storylines that are just different. Characters that are unique. There are books that simply, bring a fresh new approach to plot and characterization.
Although Noah Zarc is a twist of one of the bible’s most well known stories, it takes on a whole other shape regarding story line and adventure. The missions that Noah attack head on and conquer are never ending. They truly leave the reader wanting more and more action. I find that the author’s development of the characters, especially the fact that our hero uses a wheelchair is big for me reading from the lens of a special education teacher. I like to see diversity in books and this one has truly captured that. However, it is not so evident that it over powers the overall feel of the novel.
School is almost out and I know what series, my 10 year old son is getting reader to hit. I’ve heard nothing but Diary of a Wimpy kid for a long time. I have a big feeling something new is in store for my household!
D. Robert Pease has been interested in creating worlds since childhood. From building in the sandbox behind his house, to drawing fantastical worlds with paper and pencil, there has hardly been a time he hasn’t been off on some adventure in his mind, to the dismay of parents and teachers alike. Also, since the moment he could read, books have consumed vast swaths of his life. From The Mouse and the Motorcycle, to The Lord of the Rings, worlds just beyond reality have called to him like Homer’s Sirens. It’s not surprising then he chose to write stories of his own. Each filled with worlds just beyond reach, but close enough we can all catch a glimpse of ourselves in the characters he brings to life.
